An Afternoon with Jie JieThis series made in 2006 documented a visit to my nanny’s apartment where she cooked some of my favourite dishes from childhood. Her dated apartment and worn hands reveal the life of a selfless, self-combing woman. Jie Jie, like many others in her generation, chose a life of independence, sacrifice, and celibacy to support her family and relatives across the border in her poverty-stricken village in Canton, China.
